Madeira to Canary Islands

Funchal to Gran Canaria — an Atlantic stage with time to arrive

The Passage

From Funchal we leave Madeira’s mountainous shoreline astern and settle into the offshore routine. This is a real Atlantic stage: time for watches, navigation and open-water rhythm, without rushing straight from departure to arrival. The exact track is shaped by wind and sea conditions.

An Island Stop, If the Sea Allows

With seven days available, we aim to leave room for the Canaries themselves. Depending on weather, the boat’s progress and safe harbour access, we may stop in Tenerife or Fuerteventura before continuing to Gran Canaria. It is an intention, not a promise: the sea and the skipper’s safety decisions always lead the route.

Life at Sea

This is a real positioning passage rather than a conventional island-hopping charter. Guests join watches, navigation decisions and sail handling where appropriate.

Practical Travel Information

Arrival: Madeira Airport (FNC). Departure: Gran Canaria Airport (LPA). Participants should arrive at the confirmed embarkation point in Madeira in time for the scheduled check-in and safety briefing on 18 October 2026. Disembarkation in Gran Canaria is planned for 24 October 2026. Exact meeting time and marina details will be provided after booking.

Life Aboard Mirabo

Mirabo is an expedition sailing boat, and the voyage should feel like real life aboard rather than a staged resort programme. Guests share the rhythm of navigation, meals, watches where relevant, sail handling when appropriate, time ashore and operational decisions shaped by the weather.

Weather and Itinerary Note

The published route and dates represent the planned voyage. Departure time, stop sequence, individual anchorages and arrival timing may change according to weather, sea conditions, clearance requirements and operational decisions made for safety.

The Canaries — Many Worlds in One Archipelago

The Canary Islands are not identical stops on a map. Between them, the light, wind, terrain and atmosphere change: dry lava fields, high ridges, green valleys, black-sand beaches and quiet harbours. Sailing lets us experience those differences from within, allowing them to unfold rather than skipping across them by flight or ferry.

The many Canary stages make space to build miles and a real relationship with the ocean. Some days are for a longer passage and sail handling; others leave time for a trail, a photographic walk or an evening in a small town. Every direction through the archipelago has its own character, which is why returning here never feels quite the same.
